Native Plant List

Our meadow restoration is an ongoing project to increase biodiversity. It serves as a space for learning opportunities and a fun place to observe nature. Below is a list of native plants you'll find in our meadow. The majority of these plants prefer full sun and can tolerate compact, clay soils, aligning with the conditions here at Cornwall Social.

  • Asclepias syrica - Common Milkweed

    Wildlife associations: Host plant for Danaus plexippus (Monarch caterpillars)


    Conditions: Thrives in full sun and well-draining, dry to medium-moisture soils, but it can tolerate poor, sandy, or clay soils.

  • Echinacea purpurea - Coneflower

    Wildlife associations: Loved by songbirds, especially Spinus tristis (American Goldfinch)

    Conditions: Thrives in full sun and well-draining soils, but can tolerate clay.

  • Erigeron annuus - Daisy Fleabane

    Wildlife associations: Host plant for Schinia lynx (Lynx Flower Moth).

    Conditions: Does best in Full Sun but can take some shade. Highly adaptable, but prefers moist, well-draining loamy soil.

  • Zizia aurea - Golden Alexander

    Wildlife associations: Papilio polyxenes (Black Swallowtail), Papilio joanae (Ozark Swallowtail) caterpillars, Andrena ziziae (Miners).

    Conditions: Thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers consistently moist, rich, and well-drained soil, but is highly adaptable to clay, sand, and rock soil.

  • Monarda fistulosa

    Wildlife associations: Host plant for Pyrausta signatalis (Rapsberry pyrausta butterfly)

    Conditions: Does well in full to part sun in varying soil moisture conditions from dry to medium-wet loam, clay and sand.
