We genuinely can’t wait to welcome you to the farm and share what we’ve been working on. 

If you're wondering what day-to-day looks like here at Cornwall Social, it really comes down to these things. 

There's the land itself– what we're growing, and what we're restoring. That care shows up most clearly out in the meadow. Much of the soil there is compacted from years of old machinery, so restoration hasn’t been a matter of just letting things go, it’s meant testing, watching, and learning what actually wants to grow here versus what one could assume would. Some areas we’ve left alone entirely, just to see what comes back on its own. The truth is, a meadow like this doesn't restore itself just because you leave it alone. Keeping this kind of biodiversity means staying at it, season after season.

There's the food– seasonal, and homegrown. The kind of thing that tastes like it is grown, not sourced. We’ve been planting herb beds that can later be used in homemade syrups, infusions and cooking– and eventually, cocktails and coffee too, not just what ends up on your plate. It’s less farm-to-table for us and more alongside the kitchen, you’ll find cut flowers and other things worth bringing back with you, grown right here. 

There's the play– workshops, gatherings, the artists and instructors and neighbors we're lucky to partner with that make a visit turn into an afternoon. We’re already dreaming up what those workshops might look like, and we can’t wait to share the details as they come together. 

It's been a long road to this point. Anyone who's driven past our 11 acres on Route 94 over the last while has watched something slowly take shape: a café, a greenhouse, the meadows. Part of why it’s taken the time it has is that we wanted to build with real care. Even our café building itself reflects that thinking. Once finished, it will be one of the first restaurants in New York built to Passive House standards, which is our way of saying we care as much about energy and efficiency as we do about everything else here. We’ll be sharing much more about the meadow restoration, our passive build and farming practices in weeks ahead, so consider this the introduction, not the whole story.
